Noah, the ark-builder finds favor with God amidst destruction and evokes the trait of being loyal. This trait represents Noah’s character well because he put great trust in God and did whatever he needed to do to save humanity and make sure that life for all living creatures were pleasant. Noah listened to God and understood why God felt the way he did about the world, he also played a vital role in the building of the ark that saved he, his family, and living creatures from the flood, and lastly, abided by the covenant that God made with him. Because of Noah’s obedience for God throughout the flood and covenant, this paper will argue that the central character trait of Noah is loyalty. Before understanding the way in which Noah is loyal, it is important to understand where his actions are coming from. The name Lamech appears in both genealogies, the Cainite and Sethite. In contrast to Cainite Lamech, Sethite Lamech is anticipating Noah’s birth as a possible solu tion to the problems that are brought about by sin. The verse in which Lamech names Noah (Gen 5:29) is pivotal; it looks backs to the pronouncement of divine judgement while also looking forward to Noah and his relationship with God.
